Abstract
The purpose of this investigation was to develop four regression equations to predict 1-RM chest press strength (CPS), lat pulldown strength (LPS), leg extension strength (LES), leg curl strength (LCS) from a 7-10 RM CPS, LPS, LES, and LCS test in twenties females. Thirty-two healthy adult females were tested for 1-RM and 7-10 RM strength. The order of testing was counterbalanced to minimize the effect of improved technique. Simple regression analysis produced the following equation to predict 1-RM CPS from submaximal CPS testing: [1-RM(kg) = 1.38 + (1.19*CPS)]. Regression analysis also produced the following equation to predict 1-RM LPS from submaximal LPS testing: [1-RM(kg) = 4.55 + (1.14*LPS)]. Regression analysis also produced the following equation to predict 1-RM LES from submaximal LES testing: [1-RM(kg) = 7.63 + (1.12*LES)]. Regression analysis also produced the following equation to predict 1-RM LCS from submaximal LCS testing: [1-RM(kg) = 2.98 + (1.17*LCS)]. The results of this study indicate that 1-RM CPS, LPS, LES, and LCS may be predicted with an acceptable degree of accuracy in untrained female subjects.
